We celebrated Purim in a big way this year, with several parties for Holocaust survivors as part of the Holocaust Survivor Program. The first was a festive pre-purim event, held with the Canarsie JCC, and attended by 160 Holocaust survivors. Talented musicians performed songs in Russian, Yiddish and English. Councilman Alan Maisel and Chief of Staff to State Senator Roxanne Persaud were also in attendance. Everyone took pleasure in a wonderful four-course meal. A raffle was conducted, where four heaters were awarded. In addition, attendees left with a tasty package of fresh produce. The amazing day was enjoyed and appreciated by all. What an event!
Another party of note was designed specifically for female survivors. The festive women-only Purim party was held in Borough Park, on Monday, March 13. Nearly 100 were in attendance to enjoy dancing, a four-course meal, and the companionship of others. It was a fun way to celebrate the holiday, and provided many happy memories. We thank the UJA and Bank Leumi staff who volunteered for this event.
