In January, we held a three-day photography event which spanned across Brooklyn and Queens, for participants in the Holocaust Survivor Program. We obtained the pro-bono services of Clifford Lester, to take black and white portraits of our survivors. He is a photography professor at Cypress College in Cypress, California, and the child of Holocaust survivors himself.
Lester, and the Holocaust Survivor Program’s team of social workers, spent several hours with each of our participants. The in-home visits provided survivors with an opportunity to both tell their stories, and impart their positive messages to future generations. We obtained amazing portraits of our survivors, as they truly tap into the essence of the person and give the viewer a window into their lives. This project will culminate with a gallery event in the Fall, where all these beautiful portraits will be displayed. It will surely be an event to remember.
