During of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence honored New Yorkers who embody the meaning of #UpStander and are in the trenches every day for the people of their City.
We are proud to share that Met Council’s social worker and advocate, Micol Rieger, was the first recipient.
Micol works at Met Council’s Family Violence Department working with clients to address their immediate safety concerns and work toward self-sufficiency and healing.
“As a granddaughter of four Holocaust survivors, my family shared stories both of the strength of the human spirit and the atrocities that humans can inflict on one another,” said Micol.
With the recent rise in reported domestic violence in the Jewish community, Met Council’s culturally sensitive services are in demand more than ever.
