In celebration of National Mitzvah Day, Met Council will partner with the New York Board of Rabbis to host an annual Passover packaging project on Sunday, March 10, 2013. Volunteers and Met Council low-income senior clients will pack holiday staples to be shipped to inmates across the country, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to properly celebrate Passover.
The project, to be held at one of Met Council’s affordable senior housing sites, is made possible through the help of the New York Board of Rabbis and the unwavering commitment of participating volunteers.
“Passover is known as the Festival of Freedom and Met Council believes that everyone should have the opportunity to connect with their faith during this time of year,” said Stefanie Greenberg, Manager of Met Council’s Volunteer Department. “These goods will allow the incarcerated to have a proper Seder and will build essential relationships across our organization in honor of Mitzvah Day.”
Now in its ninth year, Areyvut’s National Mitzvah Day, is an opportunity to get children, teenagers and adults involved in chesed (kindness) and community service activities.
