After a 40 minute orientation on poverty in NYC and the benefits of the SNAP program, Met Council volunteers headed out on buses to the Bronx and Queens to participate in a Day of Service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. They teamed up with NYCCAH volunteers and Assemblymen Michael Miller from the 38th Assembly district.
Even with a temperature in the 20’s our volunteers persevered. They engaged with individuals on the street and spread the word about SNAP, debunking negative myths along the way. Our 50 volunteers distributed over 12,000 flyers on MLK day and helped touch the lives of over 12,000 families in NYC.
