Met Council and UJA- Federation Encourage New Yorkers to “Pack it Up for Purim”

purimAs New Yorkers prepare to celebrate Purim on Sunday, January 27, 2013, UJA-Federation is teaming up with AmeriCorps to stock the shelves of Met Council’s Food Warehouse in order to fight hunger in our community. With the largest kosher food pantry in the United States, the Met Council Food Network feeds over 15,000 families each month.

Met Council asks you to “Pack It Up for Purim” by creating nutritious, kosher food packages with family and friends. The goal of this community-wide effort is to create 2,500 food packages for New Yorkers in need, fostering a Purim tradition of mitzvah. Opportunities also exist for Jewish day schools, local synagogues, and communal agencies to get involved in this effort.

Participants can visit to sign up, download a shopping list, and find the nearest drop-off locations and dates. Please contact Rachael Cline at (212) 836-1339 or for more information.
