AmeriCorps Week round up

Last week was AmeriCorps week; a week when AmeriCorps members, alums and volunteers follow the AmeriCorps motto, and get things done!

Met Council’s AmeriCorps volunteers participated in the kick off celebration last weekend at Thomas Jefferson Park in Harlem. 1,300 other members, alums and volunteers showed up to rally around the importance of service and all the volunteers worked on various projects based on helping New York go green. Trees were planted, trash was picked up, kids were taught; it was a sucessful day.

Met Council VISTAs and volunteers got involved the rest of the week by planting a new garden at our Carlton Ave. housing site in Brooklyn, and passing out hundreds of energy efficient CF bulbs at 3 of our East Side housing sites.
